Our First Talent Show!

In collaboration with Drama Club (ITS), your FAU High Student Government is planning a Talent Show!!! Yes, dreams really do come true! You’re all invited to showcase your amazing talents to compete for a fabulous Grand Prize of $50, and the greatest honor in FAU High Talent Show history: winning the FAU High talent show. Two runner-up prizes will also be awarded for 2nd and 3rd place—as well as an Audience Favorite Prize that will be voted on by audience members at the actual show!! Speaking of which, the Talent Show will be taking place on Thursday, March 26th, at 7pm in the Henderson Cafetorium. Admission is tentatively $3 for students and $5 for adults, and food and drinks will be available!

We will very soon be holding auditions to decide the 10-ish acts (5 minutes maximum please!) that will be performing/competing then in front of our highly-qualified panel of judges and lovely audience. We’d love for you to audition your act! And we are looking for all sorts of acts!!! Including…

• singing
• dancing
• instrument playing
• comedy
• pantomime
• magic
• musical theatre
• actual magic
• variety (theatrical juggling…impressions…ventriloquism…etc)
• other stuff—the stuff that’s so unique that you can’t even call it ‘variety’
But please, nothing dangerous!!

Acts must be 5 minutes or less!!! The 10-ish acts that advance to the final show will be performing on the Cafetorium stage, and have access to the following (besides the chance to win actual prizes!!):
• a possibly out-of-tune piano
• a slightly-more-dependable keyboard
• a functional sound design setup courtesy of Rhiannon Rice (so we can play you backing tracks or other audio-related aids!)

Also, for those of you whose talents (perhaps in the visual arts) may not fit the performance angle of this Talent Show, we want to partially decorate this event with an installation of your artwork! This can include drawings, paintings, sculptures, scarves, anything…as always we are here to accommodate you!

We will be holding auditions at the following times in the FAU High School Lecture Hall. Auditions will be recorded for future perusal. We know that these times may not be doable for all of you, and we want to include as many of you as we can, so please let us know if you cannot make it to any of these times (see info below) and we will arrange to watch/record your act elsewhere!

  • Wednesday, February 25th: 3-5 pm in HS Lecture Hall
  • Friday, February 27, 3-5 pm in HS Lecture Hall

If you plan on attending these dates please sign up for a time slot at this link so that we have a general idea of who to expect when:

Please email one of the Event Chairs, Raquel Dumé (rdume2013@fau.edu) or Devin Weinberg (dweinberg2012@fau.edu), if you would like to schedule an audition external to these set times. Keep in mind that we have no problem accommodating extra audition times! All auditions will be experienced by at least one committee member live. The recording they take will then be shared with the rest of the committee, who will convene a moot to objectively deliberate and determine the setlist of the final Talent Show. All auditioning acts will be notified as soon as possible as to their status in the competition. More information regarding event specifics is forthcoming. ‘Talent’ auditioning (if selected) must be able to commit to being at Henderson from around 3pm on the day of the show (March 26th) for some technical run-throughs. There will then be a break (food will be available) until the show at 7. Please feel free to email us with any questions!

Thank you for your consideration, and we’d love to see you audition!! We look forward to what will surely be the first of many FAU High Talent shows!
